3rd Marking Period

21A & B- Shapes

21C- My Name

For this assignment, I am starting to use Google Sketch Up to create 3D and 2D shapes. For 21A, I had to create a triangle, square, and a circle. For the triangle, I used the Line tool to make and connect each line to create a face of a triangle. I used the rectangle tool to create the square and the Circle tool to create the circle, which was simple to follow. This was in 2D shapes, where there are only two axis, x and y, with x represented as a red line and y represented as a blue line. For 21B, I copied the previous shapes, moved them using the Select and Move tool, and used the Push/Pull tool to create a triangular prism, a rectangular prism, and a cylinder from their corresponding 2D shapes.I then used the text tool to create the text. For the last assignment, 21C, I had to use the Circle tool, Line tool, Push/Pull tool, and other tools to create my name in this program. I used the Arc tool to create curves for letters, the Offset tool to create larger shapes of existing ones, the Eraser tool to erase certain shapes and lines, and the 3D Text tool to create the title. I did these parts as 3D shapes, where there are shadows, shapes that can be pulled or pushes, and the inclusion of the third axis, z, represented as a green line. This is going to be the start of the new marking period and a new program to learn. There are also different types of views to use. There are 7 types of views and I will use a cube as an example. For a top, bottom, front, back, left, and right view, the cube will have 1 side seen. It is only in the Iso camera view when you see more than 1 side shown.

22- Blocks

Block #1  8 3/16' x 5' x 5'

Block #2  8' x 5' x 5'

Block #3 9' x 6' x 4'

Block #4  7' x 4' x 6'

Block #5  8' x 5' x 5'

Block #6  8' x 6' x 5'

Block #7  8' x 5' x 6'

Block #8  6' x 6' x 5'

Block #9  9' x 6' x 4'

Block #10  11' x 6' x 3'

Block #11  8' x 6' x 5'

Block #12  9' x 6' x 4'

For this assignment, I created 12 blocks on Google SketchUp 8 by using many tools. One of the most important tools is the measuring tape, which created guide points on lines to make the correct measurements for each block. The push/pull tools are also important, since it helped create the 3D shapes. The paint tool was a tool I used often as well, which helped me color certain parts of the block. For each different kind of face, I used a different color to show the faces that will be seen in certain views. Also, I used the dimension tool too, which measures sides and faces that is mandatory for some of these blocks in order to have the correct measurements and dimensions. The line tool with the push/pull tool was the most used however, since they are both used to create complicated shapes and remove bits off of a plain block. Google SketchUp 8 helped me learn how to use it.

QUIZ  10' x 5' x 4'

For this test, I used Google SketchUp 8 to  create a block. I had block 7, so first, I had to measure the shape given to me. It is 10' x 5' x 4', so I created a block that had that has those measurements. Next, I created 2 triangles in the top middle of the block face that has a rise of 4 and a run of 4 and connected them. Then, I creates another set of triangles, this time in the back. They have a rise of 2 and a run of 2. I connected the triangles on the front and back by using the line tool to connect their vertices on the yellow side of the block. I used the erase tool to erase the triangles and the part where the vertices connected. I used the line tool twice to connect the side vertices in the remains of the little triangle to the bottom vertex of the big triangle to make a new face. I softened the line so that it wouldn't be visible. Lastly, I used the dimensions tool to measure every side.

23- Gingerbread House

For this assignment, I used Google SketchUp 8 to create a 3D model of a picture of a Gingerbread house. This was a long assignment to do since it is very hard to copy everything from the original picture and recreate it on SketchUp. There were many tools that I used that were the same as the last assignment. The Push/Pull tool was the most used tool as I pulled the rainbow gumdrops randomly to make it more appealing, 3d-ish, and candy-like. The Free Hand tool was also important, since I used it to draw the icicles coming from different areas. I also exported an item from 3D Warehouse to get a candy cane model. It was very hard to do, but I did it. Yay.

********************************************************************************************
24- 3D Ginger Bread House

For this assignment, I used Photoshop to create a 3D image using the Ginger house from the last assignment. This assignment used a .JPG of my Ginger house and a random snow field. I erased the green background and the person so there would only be the house and the field. I copied the house to a new layer and I used blending options to make the colors channels only Red. I also moved it slightly. The original layer was changed to make the color channels only Green and Blue. This created the 3D effect and i created text using blending options.

********************************************************************************************
25- Glowing Button

For this assignment, I used Photoshop to create this animation of a button glowing green. I used many layers, blending options, and filters to create this. I even used animation frames to create this. After I'm finished, I made this into a GIF file. A GIF is a file used for small animations with a limited color pallet. This is used as a type of multimedia as a low resolution thing.

********************************************************************************************
26- Showcase Room

For this assignment, I had to create a showcase room in Adobe Photoshop CS5 with me showcased in it. This was considered a test for Multimedia because when completing it, it is composed of different things we have learned from previous assignments. This was very long to do. I followed the instructions on http://www.photoshop-plus.co.uk/learn-how-to-create-your-very-own-showcase-room/#more-648 to create this. There were many difficulties as I was doing these steps. One of them was the Snap tool. I was confused in what snapping does and how to activate it. Snapping helps with precise placement of selection edges, cropping marquees, slices, shapes, and paths. It is found under View. Another thing that was difficult was the Ruler tool. The ruler tool helps position items easier. You had to take line guides out of the ruler to use for the rectangles. Other things that were difficult were through my mistakes. When trying to snap a point  the wall did not want to connect with the other wall, but it was because I didn't extend it enough. Other questions were in the line of, "did I do this well?" In the end, it really did. That was the assignment in a nutshell.

        ********************************************************************************************
27- Brochure

For this assignment, I had to make a brochure about my school life. This is to earn an elective credit. I created this on Microsoft Publisher 2010. This software is used to create things such as birthday cards, business cards, postcards, newsletters, and other things like brochures. These are used to help business start out or for regular people to be inspired. Before I created my brochure, I had to pick a template first. A template is a file that has items you can alter to make it your own. For example, the original template I used to create this had gibberish and pictures that don't correlate to each other. Now, it has my school's information, my school schedule, and the description of each period. This is how it is done.

2nd Marking Period

11. Flyer

For this assignment, I created a flyer about a club that I am interested in on Photoshop. In this flyer, I stated who can join the club, what the club is, when it is held in the week, where it is located, and why you should join it. For the text, I used 4 different text styles to customize it. The 1st is the drop shadow, which helped create the illusion that there is light coming from the top right corner. The 2nd is the outer glow, which accompanied text to make it more readable. The 3rd is the inner glow, which made it so that text from the inside look like they're glowing. The 4th is the stroke, which made it so that there is an outline outside the text to see it better. All of these text styles helped me on this assignment. I also included graphics like the two transparent crosses and the transparent Jesus with an outer glow.

**********************************************************************************************
12. Texture With Layers Before and After
For this assignment, I created an effect on a dress using Photoshop. I used two pictures to create this effect, a blue dress and a picture of space. I followed the instructions on http://www.tutorialboard.net/texture-layer-modes/ to create this effect on Photoshop. I had to use the magnetic lasso tool and pay attention to the layers in order to make this. I also used the brush tool to make the dress a little darker to show more space.

**********************************************************************************************
13. Mimic of Poster

For this assignment, I used Photoshop to create this poster mimicking the official posters made by Food Bank. For the background, I used a blue and light blue gradient to make the graphics pop up. I created this food by making the reader believe that it is ice cream, but in reality, it is yogurt. I used 2 pictures, one with yogurt in a waffle cone and yogurt in a spoon. I used only the outer glow on the Food Bank logo to mark the importance of it. I then researched the benefits of yogurt and put it on the poster.
The NYC Food Bank logo was used solely for education purposes. No copy right infringement was intended.

**********************************************************************************************
14. Halloween Jack-o-Lantern

For this assignment, I used Photoshop to create a Jack-o-Lantern for Halloween. I used a stock image of a pumpkin and used a black background. I followed the instructions on http://tzs101.blogspot.com/2014/10/halloween-jack-o-lantern.html to create this effect. I used the pen tool, blending options, and the brush tool to create this. I used the pen tool to outline the eyes, eyebrows, nose, and mouth and used an effect in the blending options to make a pumpkin light effect. I then used the brush tool to create light from the pumpkin and from the openings. This was the final result of following the instructions.

**********************************************************************************************
15A. Flag Displacement

For this assignment, I used Photoshop to create a brick wall that has the Puerto Rican flag. I used a picture of a brick wall and the flag to use for the assignment. To create this, I followed the instructions on http://www.tutorialboard.net/create-a-painted-effect-look-with-displacement-maps-in-photoshop-cs4/ to create the effect. I had to use blending options, filters, and layers to complete the instructions given to me. After I finished it, I had to increase the canvas size and include the original flag and brick wall pictures to show my source material.

 **********************************************************************************************
15B. Face Painting

For this assignment, I used Photoshop to cover my face with a flag, similar to face painting. I used my selfie and the picture of the Puerto Rican flag to use for this. I followed the instructions on http://www.tutorialboard.net/create-a-painted-effect-look-with-displacement-maps-in-photoshop-cs4/, the same website used for assignment #15a, but with a picture of myself instead of a brick wall. I used the same tools as the last assignment. After I covered my face with the flag, I used the eraser tool to erase the flag off parts that is not the skin of the face, such as the background, eyes, mouth, and hair. I also increased the canvas size to include the original selfie and flag to show the original content.

**********************************************************************************************
16. Smart Filtering with Motion Blur

For this assignment, I used Photoshop to put smart filters on a picture. I used a picture of a plane flying in the clouds to use for smart filtering. I followed the instructions on http://www.tutorialboard.net/understanding-and-using-smart-filters-in-photoshop-for-dynamic-adjustments/ to create this effect. I opened this photo as a smart object and put motion blur and median into it. Then, I used the brush tool to remove the filters on the plane to create what looks like a moving plane. After that, I increased the canvas size to include the original photo without the filters to show the picture before and after the filters.

**********************************************************************************************
17. Quick Masking

For this assignment, I used Photoshop to quick mask a detailed section. I used a picture of an owl standing on a rock to use as my test picture. I followed the instructions on http://www.tutorialboard.net/using-a-quick-mask-to-make-a-detailed-selection/ to create something new from this picture. The picture on the bottom represents the finished product after quick masking, changing the eyes, wing spots, face, and legs slightly orange instead of the original colors on the top. I had to use quick mask and the brush tool to paint the sections I want to edit. After that, I turn off quick mask to select it and then select inverse to edit it. The owl after the effects looks cooler and prettier than it was before, orange makes things fierce. Like a tiger with it's eyes set on its prey.

**********************************************************************************************
18. Soft Skin Glow

For this assignment, I used Photoshop to create a soft skin filter affect on my face. I used a selfie as the subject, which is the same photo used for assignment #15B. I followed the instructions on http://www.tutorialboard.net/add-a-soft-focus-effect-to-make-a-portrait-glow/ to create this effect. I had to convert my selfie to smart filters and put filters such as Gaussian Blur on it and make the layer in screen mode. After that, I use the brush tool to brush over important features such as my eyes, mouth, and glasses to get rid of the effect, similar to assignment #16. The after effect is the picture on the bottom, while the original picture is on the top. The results...are pretty scary.

19. USB Drive
For this assignment, I used Adobe Illustrator CS 5 to create a realistic USB Drive. This was the first time I used Illustrator, so it was hard to learn it at first. I followed instructions on http://www.tutorialboard.net/create-realistic-pendriveas-adobe-illustrator/ to create this. I learned the layout of tools such as the ellipse tool, gradient tool, and how to use the right tool bar. You can also switch toolbar layouts by pressing a button on the top to make a layout "Like Photoshop" or "Painting". This assignment also helped me how to create original gradients and how to make and delete color-stops. It even helped me learn how to align selected objects such as shapes horizontally and vertically. Creating this USB Drive introduced me to Illustrator that will be helpful in future assignments.

 **********************************************************************************************
20. Cordless Phone

For this assignment, it was considered a test of my skill, so I only had a limited amount of questions to ask, similar to assignment #10. I had to create a cordless phone in Adobe Illustrator Cs 5. To create this, I had to follow instructions on http://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-create-a-stylish-wireless-phone--vector-3708 and create many things. The theme of this assignment is the offset path, an effect that creates another shape smaller and/or rounder to the shape selected. This helped me in creating everything in the phone, such as the buttons and the screen. This also helped me learn how to use symbols with different fonts. One of the questions that I ask was how to use symbols for different fonts. Fonts such as Windings and Symbols created little pictures that I used for the screen such as the letter symbol and the degree symbol. Another important tool is the Divide tool in the pathfinder panel. This helped me divide shapes to create new ones, which helped me create the buttons around the arrows button. It was important to create and group shapes to make more copies of them easier. There was one step that needed me to make a gradient mesh that allowed me to move colors and move certain points around, which I asked for help from the teacher. Gradients were also important as well, but it was easy to use since we only had to use white, gray, black, and everything n between. I also creates a microphone in the bottom of the phone to fill the empty space and to make it look more like a realistic phone using offset paths, shapes, and gradients. This assignment helped me learn a lot about the ins and outs of Adobe Illustrator and I learned how to use different effects and tools that are going to be very helpful in the future.
